Fever is an increase in body temperature above normal. The most common causes of fever are viral infection, often contracted when getting cold, and bacterial infection. A person can also develop a fever due to other reasons, such as food poisoning. As body temperature rises, one may feel cold, and as it falls, sweating may occur. Fever is usually accompanied by weakness, dizziness, and other symptoms that can help determine the cause of the fever. Normal body temperature varies for each person and ranges from 36.0°C to 37.8°C. Therefore, a body temperature of 38.0°C and higher is considered a fever.
