Thromboembolism

Symptoms

Thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot inside a blood vessel, usually due to vessel damage or diseases that increase blood clotting. Once loosened, the clot starts to travel through the blood vessels, a condition known as embolism. When this clot blocks a smaller diameter blood vessel, it results in thromboembolism. Symptoms depend on the location and size of the blockage. One of the most life-threatening embolisms is pulmonary thromboembolism.
