This disorder manifests with weakened lower esophageal sphincter relaxation and absent normal esophageal peristalsis.
It is treated using a dilating balloon, surgically, or with botulinum toxin injections to relax the esophageal sphincter.
It is recommended to eat frequently and in small amounts. Avoid very hot or cold food that can cause dyspepsia. Do not eat late at night or before sleeping. Eat while sitting upright, not reclining, so that food can more easily enter the stomach. Monitor dietary condition, avoid gaining weight.
