Filochinonai

Term

This is the form of vitamin K soluble in fats: phylloquinones K1, menaquinones K2, menadiones K3. These vitamins are involved in prothrombin synthesis, important in regulating blood clotting processes. The reduced form of vitamin K – dihydroquinone is a coenzyme of glutamate carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.15). This form of vitamin is important for the synthesis of blood clotting factors (II, VII, IX, X). They are mostly found in leafy vegetables, avocados, kiwi fruits, spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, and liver. They are produced by intestinal bacteria. In the absence of phylloquinones, hypoprothrombinemia and hemorrhagic syndrome occur in the body (see Vit. K).
