Description
Selective long-acting β2 adrenomimetic.
Indications
Maintenance therapy of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in adults.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
Dosage
Adults. Inh. 5 mcg once daily, at the same time every day. For inhalation instructions, see PCS.
Elderly. No dose adjustment required.
Mild or moderate renal impairment. No dose adjustment required.
Mild or moderate hepatic impairment. No dose adjustment required.
Undesirable reactions
Uncommon: nasopharyngitis; dizziness; rash.
Rare: hypertension; arthralgia.
Frequency unknown: acute hypersensitivity reaction; paradoxical bronchospasm; systemic effects (cardiovascular disorders, hypokalemia, hypoglycemia).
Pregnancy
No teratogenic effects observed in animals. Not recommended for use as a precaution. May inhibit labor.
Breastfeeding
Blood concentration is negligible, so the effect on the breastfed infant is unlikely. However, this medication should not be used or breastfeeding should be avoided.
Warnings
Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease (e.g., cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, hypertension, aneurysm), seizure disorders, thyrotoxicosis, prolonged QT interval, unusually high sensitivity to sympathomimetic effects, or diabetes, as well as during anesthesia. Other β2 adrenoreceptor agonists can be used concomitantly only for acute bronchospasm relief. If paradoxical bronchospasm occurs, discontinue use immediately.
