Wegener's granulomatosis

Wegener’s granulomatosis involves systemic inflammation of the small and medium-sized blood vessels (vasculitis). In classic cases, this disease affects the upper and lower respiratory tract as well as the kidneys, but it can also involve the skin, eyes, skeletal and muscular system, and the peripheral nervous system. Blood tests commonly reveal antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) in individuals with Wegener’s granulomatosis. Treatment guidelines vary depending on the disease stage, with adjustments to medications and their doses. This disease most commonly affects Caucasians.
