Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a condition caused by a tumor that produces gastrin. Excess stomach acid leads to ulcers in the mucosa. The syndrome presents with abdominal pain, diarrhea, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Less commonly, patients experience weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, nausea, and vomiting. The main goal of treating this syndrome is to control gastrin production with proton pump inhibitors.
