Symptoms

Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Endemic areas in the world are in South America and Africa. The disease can manifest in various ways: from a simple viral infection to a deadly hemorrhagic fever. Yellow fever can present with fever, headache, muscle pain, conjunctivitis (painful, reddened eyes), and a slowed heart rate. Recovery then occurs, but after a day, an intoxication phase can occur, characterized by jaundice, kidney and liver failure, coagulation disorders, shock, and death.
