Ringworm of the skin
Message from the ligament
Tinea corporis is an infectious lesion of smooth, hairless skin caused by a fungal infection.
Causes of the disease
The disease is caused by pathogenic fungi (Trichophyton violaceum, T. Mentagrophytes, T. Rubrum, Microsporum audrounii, Microsporum canis);
Weakened immune system;
Poor personal hygiene;
Tight, synthetic clothing.
Symptoms
At the beginning of the disease, a red spot appears, which gradually enlarges, starts to flake, and itch. There may be several such skin lesions in one place or spread over a larger area.
Forms of the disease
Fungal infection of the face;
Fungal infection of the body;
Fungal infection of the thighs.
Diagnosis
Tinea corporis is diagnosed based on clinical symptoms. A culture of the affected skin is performed to confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment
Treated with antifungal drugs: imidazole preparations (e.g., clotrimazole, ketoconazole creams), allylamines (e.g., terbinafine cream). For extensive lesions, antifungal drugs in tablet form are prescribed (e.g., fluconazole tablets). It is also important to maintain personal hygiene, strengthen the immune system, and wear properly sized, natural fabric clothing.
