Multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, involves an increase in plasma cells in the bone marrow. This disease causes bone pain, anemia, fatigue, recurrent infections, high calcium levels in the blood, and kidney damage. Doctors diagnose multiple myeloma by performing blood and urine protein electrophoresis and examining the bone marrow and skeleton.
