Cytomegalovirus infection

Description of the disease
Symptoms

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infects many people, but with normal immunity, the infection does not cause symptoms. Once CMV enters the human body, it remains there for life. When immunity becomes compromised (after transplantation, with AIDS), CMV starts to multiply unchecked, leading to fever, bone marrow suppression, and possible inflammation of the lungs, liver, colon, kidneys, and retina.
