Churg-Strauss syndrome manifests as an autoimmune vasculitis characterized by asthma and eosinophilia in the blood. Patients with this disease possess perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (p-ANCA) directed against myeloperoxidase in their blood. These autoantibodies commonly appear in patients with vasculitis-related conditions such as glomerulonephritis. Glucocorticoids serve as the main treatment for Churg-Strauss syndrome, a rare disease. If the disease affects the heart, severe complications and death can occur. Typically, patients receive a diagnosis of asthma first, followed by tissue eosinophilia and vasculitis over time. The use of antibiotics can also trigger Churg-Strauss syndrome.
