Zimosterol

Term

Zimosterol acts as an intermediate in the synthesis of cholesterol from lanosterol. During this process, the body removes a methyl group attached to C14 (converting it into CO2 and forming 14-demethyllanosterol) in the steroid ring and side chain. Additionally, the synthesis removes two methyl groups attached to C4, resulting in the formation of zymosterol.
