Uronic acids

These compounds form during monosaccharide oxidation: D-glucuronic and L-iduronic acids. They perform two main functions:
- Structural Role: These acids are integral parts of polysaccharides. For example, heparin contains D-glucuronic and L-iUronic acids acids.
- Detoxification: These acids bind to toxic substances, forming soluble glucuronides that the body can excrete in the urine.
