Tannins
Plant-derived phenolic compounds containing numerous hydroxyl groups. Tannins accumulate in various parts of the plant – bark, wood, leaves, fruits. These compounds can be used as medicines or antidotes. Tannins have an astringent effect, so they are used to treat diarrhea. The anti-inflammatory effect of tannins allows for the treatment of oral mucosa inflammation, small mouth ulcers, rinsing a sore throat. Tannins stop bleeding, compresses can be applied to wounds or bruises.
