Pulse

Term

Pulse (lat. tvinksnis) occurs during the systole of the heart ventricles and indicates the frequency of heart contractions. The normal pulse rate is 60–80 times per minute. In women, it is more frequent than in men. During rest, it should not exceed 75 beats per minute. If it is less than 40 beats per minute, a heart rhythm pathology can be suspected. The pulse is most easily palpable in areas where arteries are close to the surface of the skin – in the wrist area, neck area, groin. It is most commonly measured in the wrist area.
