Proteinuria

Term

The appearance of protein in the urine is usually serum proteins. The glomerular basement membrane is impermeable to albumins and larger proteins. Physiological proteinuria occurs during fever, after heavy physical work. If larger or even large amounts of protein (more than 250-300 mg per day) are detected in the urine, this is evidence of essential glomerular membrane damage (nephritic syndrome, pyelonephritis, nephrosis, etc.). Kidney proteinuria can be organic and functional. Proteinuria occurs when the permeability of the glomerular filter increases. Proteinuria is perhaps the biggest sign of kidney damage.
