Pharyngitis

Term

This is inflammation of the mucous membrane and submucosal tissues of the pharynx. It can involve changes in the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx. In most cases, throat pain is characteristic. Pharyngitis is most commonly caused by the same viruses as the flu. Pharyngitis can be acute or chronic. Acute pharyngitis can be caused by general body cooling, throat chilling with cold air, when the pharyngeal endoflora becomes active.
