Lymphocytosis

Term

This is an increase in lymphocyte count in the blood. It is not a disease, but can be a sign of a disease. An increase in the number of lymphocytes in the blood as a reaction to an ongoing infectious process in the body is called reactive lymphocytosis. The most common cause of lymphocytosis can be a viral infection, certain bacterial infections; an increase in lymphocyte count may indicate a serious illness, for example, lymphocytic hemoblastosis.
