These are phosphotransferases (EC 2.7) enzymes that catalyze the transfer of the terminal phosphate group from ATP or other nucleoside triphosphates to the hydroxyl, carboxyl, nitrogenous, or phosphate groups of other compounds. They are important for the organism’s energy, carbohydrate, nucleotide, and protein metabolism.
