Distrophin

Term

Dystrophin – a protein of the cytoskeleton (cell scaffold) found on the surface of muscle cell membranes. It is believed to be important for the integrity of the plasma membrane and myofibrils during muscle contraction and relaxation. Genetic mutations in dystrophin synthesis or its structure cause degenerative muscle dystrophy.
