This is an involuntary contraction of the stomach’s muscular layer, during which, due to increased pressure, the contents are expelled through the mouth. Vomiting can be caused by irritation of the stomach (infection, overeating, alcohol poisoning), irritation of the vomiting center in the brain, or imbalance of the inner ear’s equilibrium organ.
