Vaginal itching -irritation, tingling sensation causing the desire to scratch.

The most frequent causes of vaginal itching include infections such as bacterial vaginosis, yeast infection (commonly referred to as candidiasis), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like trichomoniasis. In such cases, itching is often accompanied by other symptoms like unpleasant odor, discharge, redness, or pain during urination.

Hormonal changes, such as those occurring during menopause or pregnancy, can also lead to vaginal itching. During menopause, declining estrogen levels can cause vaginal mucosa dryness, leading to itching and irritation. During pregnancy, hormonal fluctuations, increased vaginal secretions, and changes in immune function can make women more susceptible to infections, which can in turn cause itching.

Other factors, such as allergies or skin conditions, can also contribute to itching. Using certain hygiene products like soaps, lotions, or douches can result in allergic or irritant reactions. Conditions such as contact dermatitis or other skin disorders can cause itching around the vaginal area.
