Description:

Purulent vaginal discharge refers to a thick, yellow, green, or brownish discharge from the vagina. This discharge often signals infection or inflammation. It may have a strong, unpleasant odor and typically indicates a bacterial, fungal, or sexually transmitted infection.

Causes:

  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis)
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Fungal infections (candidiasis)
  • Non-infectious causes: foreign bodies, inflammatory conditions such as cervicitis or vaginitis
