Symptoms

An ulcer is a defect in the skin, mucous membranes, and deeper tissues. Ulcers can vary in size, shape, and depth. Initially, their edges are soft, later the base is covered with connective tissue. An untreated ulcer can start bleeding (when the defect affects blood vessels), be complicated by infection (when bacteria, fungi enter).
