Nail biting, also known as onychophagia, involves the compulsive act of biting one’s nails. Stress, anxiety, or boredom often trigger this behavior. In Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, affected individuals exhibit nail biting as part of their self-injurious behaviors. These behaviors usually start in early childhood and lead to damaged nail beds, infections, and other related complications.
