Low sphincter tone

Low sphincter tone refers to a reduced ability of the anal sphincter muscles to contract and maintain closure. This condition can result from muscle weakness, nerve damage, or aging. Low sphincter tone can lead to difficulties in controlling bowel movements, potentially causing fecal incontinence and involuntary release of gas or liquid. This condition can significantly affect a person’s quality of life, causing discomfort and embarrassment.
