Increased appetite, also known as hyperphagia or polyphagia, is the condition where an individual feels excessively hungry and consumes larger amounts of food than usual. This symptom often occurs when the body’s cells are not able to utilize glucose effectively as a source of energy, leading to persistent feelings of hunger. Despite eating more, the individual might not gain weight and can even lose weight, which can be particularly indicative of underlying conditions such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or certain psychological conditions.
