Hepatic enlargement, also known as hepatomegaly, is the abnormal swelling or enlargement of the liver. It can result from various conditions, including liver diseases such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and cirrhosis, as well as infections, heart failure, or the use of certain substances like anabolic steroids. Symptoms may include a feeling of fullness or discomfort in the upper right abdomen, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and fatigue. Detecting hepatic enlargement typically requires medical imaging and blood tests, and addressing the underlying cause is crucial for effective treatment and management.
