Heart palpitations
Heart palpitations involve subjectively unpleasant sensations of heart activity. They occur when people suffer from heart disease, experience strong emotions (especially fear or anxiety), consume strong coffee, or take certain medications. People most commonly feel palpitations when the heart rate increases or becomes irregular due to premature or additional contractions of the heart muscle (extrasystoles). The sensation of heart palpitations subsides when they address the underlying cause.
