Fluid accumulates in the abdominal cavity, causing swelling and discomfort. Known as ascites, this condition often results from severe liver disease. It can lead to abdominal distension, breathing difficulties, and a feeling of heaviness. Fluid buildup may also indicate complications such as infection or kidney dysfunction.
