Fainting, or syncope, is a temporary loss of consciousness and muscle tone due to inadequate blood flow to the brain. It is characterized by a sudden onset, short duration, and spontaneous recovery. Often caused by low blood pressure. Before fainting, a person often experiences dizziness, discomfort in the abdomen, nausea, cold sweat or heat, temporary loss of vision, hearing, and sensation of pain.
