Dry cough: A persistent cough that does not produce mucus or phlegm. It often feels irritating and scratchy in the throat. A dry cough can be caused by various factors, including viral infections, allergies, asthma, environmental irritants, or other underlying conditions. Unlike a productive cough, which helps clear mucus from the respiratory tract, a dry cough does not clear out any congestion and can be bothersome, leading to throat soreness or fatigue.
