Chronic cough

Sudden respiratory tract response to irritation, aimed at removing accumulated secretions, pus, foreign bodies, irritants, or microbes. During coughing, a deep inhalation is taken and forcefully exhaled through a closed glottis, the glottis opens and inhalation is taken again. Coughing can be voluntary or involuntary. Frequent coughing usually indicates a respiratory tract disease.
