Cellulitis

Cellulitis is a rapidly spreading skin infection characterized by distinct redness at the edges. One of the most common forms of cellulitis is erysipelas, which is characterized by raised, distinct redness at the edges. Cellulitis presents with redness, swelling, warmth, and pain. It most commonly occurs on the hands and feet. The risk of developing cellulitis increases after previous episodes of cellulitis, in the presence of lymphedema or venous insufficiency, in individuals with diabetes mellitus, or with wounds or ulcers. It is most commonly treated with antibiotics that target streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus.
