Aphonia – absence of voice. The patient cannot speak loudly. It occurs due to impaired blood circulation of the vocal cords, their paralysis, inflammation, tumor, or scar. Psychogenic aphonia occurs in patients with hysteria, after psychological trauma, fear, or excitement.
