Abdominal bloating
Abdominal bloating – bloating of the abdomen with gas located in the stomach or intestines. The abdomen becomes bloated when food and gas move more slowly through the intestines and are expelled too slowly through the anus, when too much air accumulates due to fermentation or putrefaction in the intestines. Abdominal bloating can occur when there is a disturbance in the circulation of the abdominal cavity organs or when their contents become denser, causing less gas to be absorbed into the blood. Abdominal bloating is often a symptom of a disease. When the abdominal wall muscles are strong and their tone is greater than that of the diaphragm, accumulated gas in the intestines causes less abdominal distention but raises the diaphragm. When the abdominal muscles are weak, even a small amount of gas can cause abdominal bloating.
