A prominent rib hump in the chest means a noticeable bulging or protrusion of the ribs on one side of the back or chest. This asymmetry becomes visible when a person with scoliosis bends forward. The spinal curvature causes the ribs to stick out more on one side. Idiopathic scoliosis commonly includes this symptom.
