Indigestion, also known as dyspepsia is characterized by chronic or recurrent pain in the upper abdomen, a feeling of fullness, and early satiety. People with dyspepsia often experience abdominal bloating, frequent belching, nausea, or heartburn. Gastroesophageal reflux disease or gastritis most commonly causes dyspepsia. Less commonly, it may indicate the first symptoms of peptic ulcer disease or cancer. When dyspepsia occurs in people over 55 years old, it signals the need for further investigation.
