Description
Synthetic fluorinated potent corticosteroid,
characterized by pronounced glucocorticoid
and weak mineralocorticoid activity.
Locally used to suppress inflammation, allergy,
proliferation.
Indications
Severe inflammatory skin diseases: eczema, psoriasis,
atopic dermatitis, severe contact dermatitis,
discoid lupus erythematosus, flat red
lichen, chronic simple lichen, severe
lichen striatus, hyperkeratotic eczema, severe
nummular (coin-shaped) eczema, severe eczematous
condition of the palms and soles, severe chronic psoriasis, periocular
capillary hemangioma. Contraindications
Untreated viral, bacterial (e.g., pyoderma),
fungal (e.g., candidiasis) skin infection, skin
tuberculosis, skin syphilis; acne rosacea, acne vulgaris,
herpes simplex, perioral
dermatitis; hypersensitivity to the drug; infants.
Dosage
Adults. Apply a thin layer and gently rub into the affected
skin area 1-2 times a day (morning and evening),
not longer than 4 weeks, or 1-2 times a week for
6 months. The total amount of drug used per week
should not exceed 25 mg of clobetasol propionate
(50 g of 0.05% clobetasol propionate cream
or ointment and 50 ml of 0.05% clobetasol dipropionate
lotion).
Undesirable reactions
Most common: burning, itching, skin irritation,
acne, transient erythema, folliculitis, miliaria,
perioral dermatitis, secondary infection,
skin atrophy, skin hypopigmentation, skin peeling,
dry skin, hypertrichosis, telangiectasias,
stretch marks.
Others: alopecia, vesicular rash, eye irritation,
glaucoma, headache, allergic contact
dermatitis; when applying to a large skin area and for a long time,
due to drug absorption, systemic glucocorticoid
effects may occur.
Pregnancy
General and local corticosteroid preparations
are teratogenic in animals. Corticosteroids used in the first trimester of
pregnancy can cause oral
and facial defects.
Warnings
Use with caution in patients with poor skin
circulation (ulcers may develop). Avoid
applying to large skin areas and for a long time. Not recommended
for children under 12 years of age,
pregnant and lactating women (do not apply to breasts), in case of
widespread psoriasis, do not apply on wounds and near wounds,
on the face, groin, and armpit area, use a dressing.
