Amlodipine
Description
Calcium channel blocker, dihydropyridine. Most strongly
affects arterial smooth muscles, heart
almost not affected.
Indications
Arterial hypertension; for the prevention of angina pectoris.
Contraindications
Cardiogenic shock; unstable angina pectoris; severe
aortic stenosis; pregnancy.
Dosage
For adults. Orally. Initially 5 mg once
a day, maximum dose – 10 mg once a day.
Adverse reactions
Most common: headache, dizziness,
fatigue; edema, facial flushing due to blood
flow; nausea, gingival hyperplasia.
Others: erythema multiforme.
Pregnancy
Risk category – CM. Use with caution (not recommended in the first trimester).
Breastfeeding
Not recommended.
Warnings
Use with caution in patients with CHF. It is not recommended to abruptly discontinue the medication
in patients with angina pectoris.
