Carbamazepine is used to treat epilepsy. The half-life of the drug is 10–25 hours in adults (with repeated drug administration). It takes 2–3 weeks for the drug to reach steady-state concentration in the blood. It is advisable to start monitoring the drug in the blood after the steady-state concentration has been reached (2–3 weeks after the start of treatment).
