Trachoma – an eye infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It should not be confused with chlamydial conjunctivitis, which usually resolves on its own. In adults, this disease manifests more mildly and for a shorter duration than in children. Recurrent infections lead to chronic inflammation, scarring of the conjunctiva, and blindness.
