Symptoms
Syphilis – a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide. The disease is often asymptomatic but can also present in various ways. Diagnosis is based on clinical findings and serological blood tests. It is treated with penicillin. Untreated syphilis increases the risk of contracting HIV and can cause heart and vascular, as well as neurological diseases.
