Hearing impairment refers to the partial or complete inability to hear sounds in one or both ears. This condition can vary in severity, ranging from mild hearing loss to complete deafness. Common causes include age-related degeneration, excessive noise exposure, infections, genetic factors, and certain medications or illnesses. Symptoms often include difficulty understanding speech, frequently asking others to repeat themselves, and the sensation that sounds are muffled or distant.
