The sensation of ants running under the skin, also known as formication, is characterized by a feeling of insects crawling on or under the skin. This abnormal sensation can cause intense itching and discomfort. It may occur due to various medical conditions like peripheral neuropathy, menopause, or certain mental health disorders. Formication can also be a side effect of drug withdrawal or certain medications.
