Vacuole

Term

A closed structure found only in eukaryotic cells, completely surrounded by a membrane, containing fluid material inside. Plant cells can have large vacuoles, occupying up to 95% of the cell volume. In these cells, vacuoles perform a similar function to lysosomes in animal cells (containing many hydrolytic enzymes, especially various proteases). In the reserve tissues of seeds, there are special sources of proteins in vacuoles, which will be needed for seed germination.
