Chronic airway obstruction involves increased resistance of the respiratory tract due to bronchial smooth muscle spasm, bronchial mucosal edema, inflammatory changes, accumulation of secretions in the respiratory tract, and decreased lung tissue elasticity. In cases of respiratory tract obstruction, individuals experience shortness of breath and worsened exhalation.
