Description of the disease

Chagas disease – a parasitic disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. It is transmitted by triatomine bugs. The disease is widespread in the Americas. In the initial phase, symptoms are often absent, later in the chronic phase Chagas disease can cause damage to the heart, digestive tract, and nerves. The goals of treatment are to eliminate the parasite from the body and treat the symptoms.
