Traveler’s diarrhea
Traveler’s diarrhea is an acute disease causing diarrhea, the course and symptoms of which depend on the bacteria, virus, or parasite that infected the traveler. It usually resolves on its own in at least 5 days. This disease is characterized by 4-5 bowel movements with loose stools, abdominal pain, general discomfort, and fever. A quarter of patients feel so unwell that they try to stay in bed. The risk of getting traveler’s diarrhea depends on the country being traveled to. The highest risk of getting sick is in South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
